The weatherman said it was going to rain today

But as I look up

There's nothing but a blue canvas on display

I knew I brought this umbrella for nothing

As it lays beside me on the ground

Ignored and abandoned

With little hope of ever being found

It's funny now that I think about it

How little I looked up at the sky

To appreciate its beauty

Or to simply watch the birds fly....

I should of listened to my mom

Like always, she was right

"Don't listen to them"

"Just turn around and walk away"

Is what she would constantly say

When I'm the one who has to go to school and get called names everyday

Texting in class and laughing behind my back

Each passing moment

Became harder and harder to ignore their attacks

I went to the principal

But he said there was nothing he could do

"You expect me to suspend a few kids because they're making fun of you?"

"Do me a favor: Grow up and get back to class"

As he signed his name at the bottom of my hall pass

I left his office and walked the gauntlet of pointed fingers and whispered insults

And down my face rolled the wet and painful results...

So here I find myself

Alone and free of it all

Turning off my cell phone

As my mother continues to call

I take from my pocket the key to my release

Swallowing each pill

Is the only hope I have of ever finding any peace....
