To a place I dare not travel while I am awake
Within me lies a great forest of the deep
A place I can only get to when I sleep
I go there to find what I can not during the day
A place to call home
Happiness in everyway
I go there to escape all I can not control
Everyone of them that chip away at my soul
I used to lay here
Looking up at the stars on my wall
But now they lay me down
As I watch my tears fall
I close my eyes as they hover above me
As my mom stumbles to her room saying she loves me
She closes the door slowly and leaves me behind
As they have their way with me
Time after time after time
I struggle to get free
But their hands keep me down
My room echoes from the terrible sound
Of a child losing hope of ever being found
Their pleasure is my pain
As I stare out the window
Crying with the rain
I am but one child
With many names
We all travel to the same place
Because only our dreams can keep us safe
Deep within us lies a great unrest
Searching for that which is difficult to digest
One day…
We’ll be able to lay in our beds and look up at the stars again
That much we know
But till then
