There are so many kindnesses in my life
A warm touch on a cold spring morning
A drunkard telling me that he missed his family
Urging me to go home

I cannot remember his words
But I remember
The tears in his eyes
The liquor on his breath
The scraggly dirty brown beard

The second dream is not a dream at all
But a stone wall at the entrance of a trailer park
Centered westerly between a canopy of mossy trees
And the barren tarmac of an old airport
With a field of sunflowers sparkling behind it

The second dream is a boy
Sitting on that wall
Watching the sun set

The second dream
