A heart longing for peace and yet life will not let that happen.
Elusive slumber brings nights of wakefulness as violence
and anger robs a soldier of mental rest, yelling its unrest
till the early hours.
Strength and resolution on the battlefield slides with tears
of frustration and powerlessness overwhelms as choice
is out of reach.
Responsibilities weigh heavily and support wanes with
the scars of personal battles.
And then there is the day,
unforgiving in its appearance and
its resolve to happen, without thought of the consequence of
night.
A dawn chorus of relentless asking and demand
For faces of bravery,
who continue the fight,
and wait for the hours of darkness before facing the demons
who will not lay a soul to rest.
