I’m the child whose gown-up scolds, “Time to come in! Stop your play! Time to put your toys away!”

Why must she be calling you when you’ve got so much play to do?
(My friend and I have secret places!); We trade dreams and silly faces!

Building forts from cardboard boxes; sharing cokes and chicken poxes!
We are as we wish to be; always new my friend and me.

Rolling in the fresh mown grass; pressing noses to the glass;
Giggling because no one’s seen us! (feel the magic pass between us?)
Dragging sticks along the street; Puddle jumping with both feet!
Sailing tinfoil down a gutter; what theatrics we can utter!

Change our voices—play the parts! Believe in us with all our hearts!
I’m just who I want to be, because my friend believes in me.

With a cape I’d surely fly! Or shoot me! See how neat I die?
BANG! Ya missed me! (ride away). I got you first anyway!

Walking fences till we come to someone’s sprinkler we can run through.
Turning circles till we’re dizzy; watching grown-ups acting busy!
Staying out long after dark; to chase the fireflies in the park.
Trying hard to look undaunted, running past the house that's haunted!

We become what we believe;
But oh, what magic children leave when answering that grown-up’s call…magic so hard to recall.

My grown-up lives inside of me; she makes my friend so hard to see.
I know…it’s time! (she hates to wait! She’ll just kill me if I’m late!)

So….
Will you meet me here again? Will you be my bestest friend?
BANG! Ya GOT me! (fall and die); I want my friend to see;
that I was just a grown up til he believed in me.

Friendship sees what friendship’s told.

Rolling in the fresh mown grass; pressing noses to the glass;

We become what we believe;

So….
Will you meet me here again? Will you be my bestest friend?
BANG! Ya GOT me! (fall and die); I want my friend to see;
that I was just a grown up til he believed in me.
