You on your side of the world
And me on mine
Separated by matters of the heart
What I felt for you could not be returned
My suggestion that we stay together
Spurned by your desire to be alone
And with that request
Time after time
I have learned
You want what you want
And I'm not inclined
To be part of your plans
A partner in your dance
A lover to romance
I am nothing but a stranger
My loneliness out of your hands

I am too tired now
I have tried too hard to explain my part
You seem sure this is what you want
Convinced me I have no choice
but to make a new start
You say I have to let you go
The hardest thing I have had to do
Since loving you was so easy and peaceful
Not one moment untrue

Together one day
Then distanced by more miles than I can count
Desperate my hands crave your body
My words beckon your ears
My kisses search for your lips
Looking for you in places I know you do not exist
I pleaded but you must insist
That I go
Take my things
That I know
I meant everything
Just not what's important enough to keep

Painful as it is today
I worry about the years ahead
I imagine not seeing you laying there
Or even worse, in another mans bed
Eventually you will marry
Have a family of your own
You will have nice things and pretty smelling flowers flowing through your home
Your garden will blossom
While mine bares no fruit
Instead of me coming into your arms after a long day
I will dream of you
When you used to say
"I love you, I want you stay"
Daddy, come out and play
Okay son, I'll be right there

When nothing stirs
Nothing moves me
I am reminded that I am alone
Misery soothes me
Your face eludes me
Only photographs to glimpse
A past lost to circumstance
People forgotten
Life waits for nobody
Certainly not us
