It’s as if she sees through every single one of the lies,
Yet they keep coming no matter what I do
If only this were as simple as the straight path the crow flew.

Before all this I felt like I was invincible
Representing the nation in sport, never leaving the tracks
But now that everyone has left, im left looking at their backs
And im left alone with this depthless pit,
That grows and boils till I strike out and hit.

But when did I change and become so hateful?
And since when did I lose everything to which I was faithful?
It’s so hard growing up in today’s ways,
I envy those who remain hard backed and walk through unfazed.

I remember getting the letter home explaining to me;
How I’d made the Australian squad, and all I was meant to be,
Those endless hours spent training,
The sweat, the blood, the tears
And to give it away at the end, to embrace a life of everyone’s fears

The alcohol came first like a sparkling cure,
A cure for a slight depression, so I took the lure
But the spiral it led me on was too short, too fast,
And my vessel was left to sink, underneath my broken mast.

Drugs took a while longer but sure they came
And for what, for ***** sake, a few hours fame?
The after effects were worse than ever
And a boy once so light and keen died,
As his brain took in the negative words of ‘never’

I write these words in the memories of my mate
Who isn’t here today by the path of his fate,
As you read his story please take it in
This boy had everything before he chucked it in the bin.

He was the smartest at our school by far,
His energy and loyalties were always far above the bar
Before this ***** came and ruined his entire being
Watching him without anything to do
It was like one side of him was fleeing
From the very person he was
And all because
He was so depressed

The crimes came next, as he rose in the gang
He turned on all of us, all his old friends,
We would’ve hated him if he wasn’t so helpless
He was a superstar that was captured in a mess.

It seems one night our old friend had seen enough,
Rest in peace brother, the way you left was way too rough,
The way you were found lying there,
The smell of the musty, gory air,
Why did you take that gun and press it to your head,
What were your last thoughts as you crumbled and bled?

Sometimes all it takes is a bit of support,
Im sorry, fallen brother whom I should have caught,
We all let you down just as much as you did on your own,
We never should have let you walk so alone…

I am so sorry.
