children running free
hair blowing in the wind
smiles spread across faces
shrills of laughter escaping lips.
innocence watching over them
its rays a warm blanket,
hugging them all around.
they are princesses and fairies and doctors and world class soccer players
their imaginations run wild and free
i watch them from my porch
envious.
i watch the rain sprinkle around me
i feel the first drop roll off my cheek
how much i wish to be them, i think.
then turn towards my house
for the sun can shine on me no more
