The stars look beautiful tonight as I rest here,
Leaning against the trunk of my favourite tree,
For here is my safe haven, my solace and comfort, sanctuary.
I stand and embrace the giant oak, arms unable to encircle it.
I wonder how many thousands of people, lovers or otherwise
Had taken refuge and found peace within its mighty presence.
So tall with mighty branches, its foliage protected one from any rain,
And to touch it, smell the bark, you could imagine the history,
What sights and events this living sculpture had witnessed.
I still held it tightly, hoping in a way that it could comprehend
How much it meant to me, the peace it provided for me,
And in a way I believed that everyone important to me,
Those who had passed on now resided within this mighty oak.
