Today I wandered in the alley
And came along a candy shop
I found a lot of candies, in a trolley
Coffee canes, with sugar on top

I saw a mother, at the cashier
to buy her son a lot of these
I'd ask you first, but you weren't there
So I took some candies home with ease

Dear Mother,

Today I went to school
even though I'd rather not.
Teachers tell me, I break the rules
and this is true, I fight a lot

I'd end up in detention,
with the other boy I fought
His mother would come, to give him a lesson
while I wait, unattended

Dear Mother,

Today I cried, all alone
curled up in the basement
With bruises, and hurting bones
And on my face and arms were rents

Father came home today
a cracked bottle in his hand
My prayers were betrayed,
today. Father was canned

Dear Mother,

I often sit and wonder
By myself, and let my mind run free
if only I'd been a nicer,
little boy, when you were here

Would you have stayed?
would you still take your life away
and went to Heaven, like father once said?
Why did you leave your son behind?

Dear Mother,

Today I played with child
of eight, a little boy
Mother, he felt so light
I held him close, just like a toy

But then he cried,
and tried to run away
Mother, I'm terrified

I killed a child today.
