I buried her deep near the maple tree
where the cross winds cry to the restless sea,
where the cold of the grave denies her sleep
and the dark beyond won’t let her weep.

I cast his body onto the pyre
and scored his heart within the fire
to curse his soul wherever it be,
then gave the ash to a restless sea.

The lover and friend who is twice betrayed
can seek revenge from the trust unmade;
may quench the infidelity, but
must make peace with the restless sea.
