Elected to usher in
New Camelot waltz
All older
Some wiser
None remourseful

Saw you sneakin' out of Bird's Nest
Clutching bronze
Grasping silver
Still coveting gold

Your chafed lips
Red shoulders
Scarred back
From neck to waist

You did not free Tibet
Nor usher in a brighter dawn
But when you left your mobile on the bus
Strangers glimpse your struggle
To stay focused

Noticed subtle life changes
Dice man alterations
Now pure
As Eden's crimson skies

Toothless girl banished
Ping pong ball went missing
Counting down the years
The months
The hours
Till global games sweep into
Unsleepy London town

See the shapeless eager man
King for our time
Eyes of faith glimpse
Parted seas
Silenced tanks
Castrated burning bush

His older greying rival
Cracked and blurted out
The truth
Did no aide counsel him
That 'G' word was out of bounds?

Watch the Camelot man
In dusk's dim light
No more Mr Charley
Mr Darcy a more fitting term
(to suggest black podium gloves so uncooth)

Come spring will be
Camelot waltz time
Slower
Wiser
Less profane maybe
Just pass to me
Those old time dancing shoes
