On a shore ever wide
Lies a damaged seashell seeking shelter
Under the rising tide.

After a dismal cloudy day,
Dusk has settled in.
The hissing tide covers him,
Protecting him from the wind.

But the tide, however
Is not the seashell’s friend.
It sweeps him away
When comes the end.

It comes in, it goes out,
Crashing against rocks.
Slowly, but surely,
The seashell gets lost.

Off into the ocean
He ventures, unaware
Unprotected in the Great Outdoors,
Nearing a mighty lair.

Petrified and trembling,
The seashell calls for help
But no one in this great wide ocean
Hears the tiny shell

Hopeless, sad and wandering
The seashell sees a light
But all around it, darkness
So begins his mindless plight

The closer, brighter, and stronger it is
The warmer he feels inside.
Faster, faster, be not afraid!
For what he has found, he has pride.

Just when the seashell feels closest,
The warm glow disappears
All alone, he searches
His good feelings replaced with new fear.

Heart-broken and stupefied,
The seashell travels on
More lost and confused than ever before
He cannot find the sun

A voice, then, from nowhere
Shattering the silence of night
“Come to my voice, oh tiny seashell,
Come to this beautiful light.”

And sure enough when he turned around
Brighter than before
Was a familiar light and experience
He found himself longing once more.

“But why did it go away?” he asked
Unto the potent voice
“A test to see if thou art patient,
And try to obtain it by choice.”

Closer and closer, his utopia became,
But more distant and fearful he felt
Why would I be afraid, he thought,
This place is heaven, not hell.

Warmer than ever
Yet colder, somehow
He wonders if its possible
He can trust the light now

Still the seashell drifts
Toward the blind truth
Finding new motivation
A fountain of youth

All of a sudden
In the blink of an eye
The seashell uncovers
No longer is he shy!

He can finally see
What he missed before
An opulent world,
Paradise galore!

Spectacular colors!
A perfect breeze!
Waking up in familiar cold wet sand,
It was merely a dream.

Lonely and shivering,
On a shore ever wide
Lies a damaged seashell seeking shelter
Under the rising tide.
