Question from webmaster - Please answer
Hi all, hope you are all well. A few weeks back, we were trying to think of ways to help the site etc, and it was suggested a small comp, now I would like your thoughts on this, as I have seen the law makers (at a cost!) and all would be ok to hold them.
Basically it would be a poetry comp, held over ? month/s, with a prize of $???usd(put up by myself). The cost of entering would be $1.00usd, by paypal (or mail) to cover the prize costs etc, and if first goes well, the second would be funded from the first etc...
So, I need to know, how many would be willing to participate, or is/will it be a waste of time? Please let me know as if you would like, I will start coding this section...
On another note, my site (that few used) Your Jokes, will be closing, but I have added a JOKES section to this site in the main menu!

Tres confused the mailing would cost more than the fee??? I would like to help out the site sure, but $1 seems sort of minuscule. Although it is American... I don't get what u meen by prizes though???

The prize for the first (test) comp would be something like $50.00 or $100.00usd, which would have to be funded by myself, in hopes that it would work, the $1 fee, tho being small, is kept to a min to get ppl to enter, and they may enter more than one poem in each comp, provided each poem is accompanied by the fee (ie $1.00 per poem)
All poems submitted to the comp would be displayed in a special part of the site, which would also allow comments/rating/etc much as does the general part of the site, the difference will be that, the poems from the first comp, will be removed after the second (only the winning entry remaining), poems from second, after the third etc. (or at least, thats how i hope it would go, if I can code it that way!!)

OK Mick that clears everything up. I thought u meant a fee to join the site and continue to be on the site. I think a competition would be very cool. Would the winner be determined by u or the general populace? Personally I think it should be determined by u Mick. I have read some very good poems that only have like 1 or 2 comments and other poems that are equally good, but have like 7 or 8 comments. So yeah just an idea.

I'd just like to say Mick that maybe the first prize you give could be something from the YPDC i think that would be a really good prize... just a thought in any case

(I'm a member of the U.S. Democrat party and we have a habit of not voting). By the way, you are doing great work.

I would have to agree with kangarose I would personally prefer something from the YPDC shop and have the cash go towards the site. For me the cash wouldn't be why I was entering into the contest. I love the thought of competing against some of our best and seeing what everyone writes and how they go about their using their artistic juices. The prize is just not that interesting to me. But as for the contest I am most certainly in.
Ahh! I love the idea! But, I too will agree with kangarose, that is such a wonderful idea! And a great way to fund for the site..... but, will 2canadian do for 1american? it's worth about that much now adays.... :*(

few thoughts before i vote:
can we enter poems all ready posted here?
i have heard a few say they like the idea of a contest. i would join, but am concerned if it will bring enough support for the site.
what will happen if you hold a contest but not enough enter to cover the prize.
if the prize comes from your pocket, no. the contest fees shall cover all prizes and judges fees. if any of it is your wallet funding it, i would not join. you do so much for us as it is.
hope we can get it to work.
I really like the idea but what happens for people like me who are not american. I am in the UK and would like to enter but I don't have any american dollars!!

You shouldn't say that Phantom (although very sweet
) ... because I could never write on the topics that you write about - I would be totally up the creek without a paddle 
... and this leads me to a thought .... perhaps there could be a winner in separate topics ... like perhaps Love, Anger, Humour, Grief, Religion, Nature, Suicide, etc. ... probably not all the topics that are available, but at least some ... because I think it would be difficult to choose a winner otherwise. The prize doesn't have to be great, just recognition even would be nice for those who've spent time working on it. Just a thought anyway.

I don't know if I got it right, so it's the normal site and normal poems postings which is free of costs, then there's this special posting where we participate by paying a dollar, and for return, a winner collects a price right?.
If that's it, well it's a great idea, but I still have to figure out how to send this dollar from Lebanon to you.
I think posting a dollar with your comp to enter the competition is a good one. I would do this, as well as adding to a fund if need be. Im not great on having alot of funds for myself, but to add to something that is worthwhile, which YPDC is, I don't mind. The site is worth it.
I don't get online here as often, seems I have writers block, so It appears for now, but have come in now and then to check things out. Hate to see the prizes come from your own pocket though....... should let the funds from the site come to a head over a three month time, and then you would have funds for the prize, instead of your own pocketbook. You already have enough of it in this site.
