Why people hurt

People hurt each other because it's in their nature to do so.

It is not in our nature to love. We do love, of course, but it goes against the very essence of our nature, and in doing so remains incomplete, which is why it's so easy to get hurt from it.

It's as if one plants a seed, and then just as that seed is sprouting, plucks it up, leaving a hole.

I will never likely admit to this again, but in a way Freud's idea that our psychological and emotional disturbances are due to us warring with our instinctual nature isn't too far off. I don't totally agree with the idea, but from a certain point of view, I can at least acknowledge that yes, we are instinctual beings, and yes, many of our emotional and psychological problems stem from this; however, I think that we, as humans suffer what we suffer because we are human, that our anger, violence and other problems are rooted within the lack of understanding of our higher selves. If we realized (truly realized) the power that we have, and acted on that power, we would find ourselves in a much higher state of mind.

Fear, unfortunately, prevents us from attaining that understanding, and so we continue on the same insignificant plane of existence that we always have.

Course, tomorrow, I will think differently. ^_^

Always,
Abraham

Re: Why people hurt

I do not believe that it is our instinct or nature to hurt others, but only to preserve ourselves and to do what we think is best for us. This in turn can often lead to pain for others, especially when it is not in the other person's best interest. Many people believe that others are trying to hurt them, and take things personally. This, I believe, is one of the biggest flaws of the human race. People do not wake up and decide subconsciously to hurt another person, but rather to change their life for the better. When I am hurt or down, I try to remember this, although it is very hard not to lash out when you are hurt. This is especially true when it comes to love and commitment.

You may be right deusdeira. To be honest, this topic was actually meant as a reply...I hit the new topic button by mistake...I don't even know it still existed. You should take what I say with a grain of salt, much of it is based on my emotional and mental status at the time I wrote it. My true beliefs are buried so deep I don't even know how to begin to communicate them.
