First Poem?

Hi, I was just sitting around collecting dust (yes, I'm talking about myself, not a book... Razz) and I started thinking about the first poem I ever wrote. Then I got to thinking, due to the fact that many poets on this site have close to (if not) hundreds of poem posted on this website, do you all remember the first poem you ever wrote? I'm not really talking about your grade school stuff where you wrote and got a yellow star for them (although it's not wrong, it could be one of those), but the first poem you've written for yourself personally. Can you remember that one? I can remember mine, because it was just so recent, but if I do keep doing this for years on end, will it be harder to remember? Has it happened to you? Have you ever become numb to your own writes or anything?

Just some ramblings of mine, I get to asking questions when I'm bored...

Re: First Poem?

Sad sadly no I can't remember my first poem that I wrote, I wrote a few years and years ago while I was in care, but I didn't keep them and now I wish I had, as it would be interesting to see how much my writing had improved

take care

Re: First Poem?

It's called 'Dibby' named after my ex bf. I wrote that on September the 14th and he got me into it.

Re: First Poem?

I remember my first real poem.
It used to be on here, maybe I should bring it back.
It was the first one of mine Nepty ever commented on.
I wrote it when I was about 15 or 16.
A poem about rain.

::thanks the muses that my writing is better than the first song/poem::

Re: First Poem?

Oddly enough, I can't quite remember which of my early poems was my first. I was not wise enough to date them upon completion back then. It is posted, actually, and may be either 'Of Tolkien' or 'Lord of the Hall'.

Murky old days... a mere couple of years ago.

Re: First Poem?

First poem was called The Minstrel and I wrote it at the age of 21.... that was pre-computers Rolling Eyes - fortunately all my writings of old are in a couple of books (plus an untold number of pieces of paper) and reading through them is a journey.......

Re: First Poem?

My first poem I ever wrote was called "Vampire". I'm going to be writing that one on this thing sooner or later. My second poem was much better though. It was called "Would you really believe I'd do this?" or something like that anyways. Smile

Re: First Poem?

My first poem was called "Shy" It is in a book where the pages are turning brown and the holes in the leaves have worn through.

Re: First Poem?

My first poem was titled Dreams (at 12)
Second one which was more personal was "My New Friend" (at 14)

Re: First Poem?

I was 17 when I wrote my first poem that wasn't a run away note or an I don't like my life letter. That year (1985) I wrote 163 poems of which I still have 126 the next year I would write over 350 and the next year I would write almost 800. I had a lot to say back then. Now I write 2 or 3 a week. 71 last year including 42 songs and I'm on pace for that this year. I am hoping to co write some songs with some of you this year. I have one that I have been working on for 5 years.

Re: First Poem?

I believe I was nine or ten. My father had passed away in the spring after a long illness with brain cancer. My mother remarried that fall to a farmer....we moved to a lovely farm(which I now proudly own the farm house Very Happy ) Anyway I remember making boats out of various materials and setting them to float after a good rain, in the ditch out front. I always wondered where they would end up and of course I imagined them getting to the ocean Wink . Well, I wrote a poem called "My Boat". Short, but rather catchy. Maybe I will post it sometime under childrens poetry. Peace, Laura

Re: First Poem?

I can't remember the first poem I wrote. I've been writing almost as long as I've been drawing and that's been a long time.

Re: First Poem?

The first poem I wrote was called "One Good Man". I hope my exwife still has it. I can't remember all of the lines.

Re: First Poem?

geez.. my first poem. Well.. the first one I can remember anything about was called " Pinky the pink ink monster" I think, hahaha. I was in 1st or 2nd grade and it was published in one of those "young authors" books, I was so proud. I'll have to see if my mom still has it and maybe I'll post it Razz

Re: First Poem?

I don't remember mine. It's been over a decade. It's likely that one might find bits and pieces of it scattered about my writing. After a certain amount of time one begins to recycle old scraps of thought. If i recall, a good 500 or 600 of my early writings were destroyed in intoxicated rage...

Re: First Poem?

The first poem I wrote well the first poem I wrote of my own free will.

I started writing about a year ago and just sat down and started writing

The one I remember most is the one I have on here titled tick tock

Re: First Poem?

I think I might have gotten a red star or something on a grade school one. Razz

I cannot actually remember the first one I wrote anymore...I mean the first one where I actually consciously thought this is an actual poem and I'm gonna try and write it. So, nope, can't remember but do you really think I'm gonna stop there? Nooooo...

I do, however, remember the site (sort of) that I submitted it to and the reasons. Part of the reason was I wanted to write a response to leia36's My Dark Knight. I so wanted to be her "dark knight" at the time. She had that poem posted there and here. But I wasn't a member here yet. So it was probably sometime in 2004 or early 2005. Another reason I wanted to post it on that site (which btw was a Netscape site, which is no longer available) I was reading so many poems there that I thought weren't all that good. So...I felt, heck, if this poem or that poem made it, then why not submit some of my own crap. At least I knew how to spell. So, no, really don't remember it but I am sure it was much like my early dribble posted here that was mostly about her or for her. Oh, and the Netscape site never did accept it. I got very discouraged about that and trashed it completely.

Cool

Re: First Poem?

It was one of the first poems I posted on here. It is the poem that inspired me to start writing poetry. It's not really poetry, it's prose, but I put my heart and soul in it. it's called Ad Finem Temporis, which is latin for "Until the end of time." I read it all the time. Poetry has really helped me express myself lately. Now whenever I feel a strong emotion, I write. Sometimes I still play the violin when I feel strong emotion, but mostly I write.

Re: First Poem?

My first poem is Immortal Moments and this is the first written on the site too.
When I wrote and put this on YPDC and got comments and I saw number of Authors reaing it
I love to write more and more...
All my Author firends are the one who gave me strength to write more each day.
So I wil thankyou all the Authors of YPDC to make me write.
Thank you ...
