Ballade

A poem consisting commonly of 3 stanzas having an identical rhyming scheme, followed by an envoy. The same last line is used for each of the stanzas and envoy.
The most common ballade consists of 3 eight-line stanzas, followed by a 4-line envoy, with a rhyme scheme of ababcbcb and a final envoy of bcbc. All of the stanzas have the same final line, which acts as a refrain.

A variation is 3 stanzas rhyming ahabbcbc and an envoy rhyming bcbc. All of the stanzas have the same final line, which acts as a refrain.
