WALKING ANGELS
Friends are God's way of taking care of us.........
Angels may save us from some badness,
We can't see angels, but you can see
"Walking Angels,"
This one came in the form of a Hospice Dr.
in Denver with a heart so fragile.

He starts his story saying, "Of all the experiences
in my life, this one has to be the best."
On his way home one evening his car
stalled, he pulled into a service station
for a rest.
He felt so fortunate to make it to the station,
but was cursing nonetheless.
He saw a woman slip on some ice and fall
and he ran to help her in her distress

When he got to her he could see she was
overcome with grief
A young woman who looked really haggard
with dark circles under her eyes, he handed
her his kerchief
She was sobbing, not from the fall,
for she said she wasn't hurt.
He bent over to help her up with a hug
of comfort.

At that very moment everything came into
focus............
He saw the ancient Suburban and three little kids
he could tell they were homeless.
Then he glanced at the gas pump reading $4.95
His heart hurt for them, he wanted to help
them survive.

He made sure she was going to be all right,
and if he could help her?
She blurted out, "I don't want my kids
to see me crying, I can't be a griever!"
So they stood on the other side of the pump
from her car.
She was afraid her tears on their little hearts
would scar........

She told him she was driving to California
her life was in shambles.......
She was wearing down fast because
of all her trials.
He asked her if she had been praying?
She started to back away from him then, but
he assured her he was not some religious
freak, and added, "He heard your prayer
and sent me running!"

Then just like a "Walking Angel" would do.....
He swiped his credit card on the pump and
filled her car as full as it would go.
Then he walked next door to McDonald's and
bought two big bags of food.
Several gift certificates for more, and a
great big cup of coffee hot and good!

She was very appreciative, and handed
the food to her little children.
They devoured those hamburgers like
hard working crewmen.
She stood with him by the side of the car,
and she began to open up.....
She divulged her name to him,
she was from Kansas City and her
about her recent break-up

About two months ago, her live-in boyfriend
just took off.
She was left with all the bills, didn't even have
enough money for the rent, she was not well-off.
Out of desperations she called her parents
she simply couldn't make ends meet.
They were kind enough to tell her to come
home to live until she could get on her feet.

So she carefully packed everything she could
get in the car she owned,
She told her kids they were going to California
for Christmas not to stay, they would
have groaned.
He gave her his gloves, a little hug and said
a quick prayer for a safe journey.....
As he turned to go to his car,
"So, are you like an angel or something?" she
said briskly.....

You could see his eyes cloud and he said,
"Sweetie, at this time of year angels are really
busy, so sometimes God uses regular
people like me."
Sitting in his car he began to think
of what he said to her, and how he agreed.
He thought it had been an incredible blessing
to be part of her miracle....
And of course you guessed it,....his car
started right away and his joy was double.

He would take it to his Mechanic tomorrow
but knew he wouldn't find anything wrong....
His car acted up and put him at that very station
He was a "Walking Angel" and he was sent
to help her along......

I know of times in my own life when a
Walking Angel came to me
When Montie and I were homeless,
and completely penniless.
We were living in our little Ford
Station wagon with our 6 little critters
and it was -18 below.
Parked at a camping reservoir, our sweet
Bootie dog met a man ice fishing,
and she sat with him and said, "Hello"

He loved her so much he followed her
back to our campsite.
He wanted to buy her from us, he
really thought she was all right!
We had prayed all day asking for help
we had no food at all.
We didn't even have any food for our
little pets, would He hear our call?

This complete stranger listened
to our plight.
He reached into his fishing gear and from
there opened his wallet in broad daylight
He handed Montie a $20 dollar bill and
his good wishes.
We were so appreciative, and said we'd
pay him back, even if it took ages!

After he left, Montie gave me the money
to care for
As I opened the bill, I cried real tears
it was two $20 bills not one like we had
thought before.
Our big sweet Bootie dog never left
our side......
We didn't even know she was gone.....
upon us she always relied.

We had just enough money to get
us to my home....
There we would have family and
not be all alone.
Do Montie and I believe in
"Walking Angels" in action?
Indeed we do, we met one
in person!

The story is not mine,
and I can’t find the Drs
name it was sent to me by
a dear friend.
I created the poem.
The ending actually
happened to us
