Los Angeles Summer of 1979 or is it 1980
(Actually Jamaica Queens 1979 or 1980)

There are earth quakes in the city and a huge cavern is splitting Los Angeles in two
(Actually it is me pushing the two beds around)

Brawno one of the West Coast Avengers dives into the cavern to check it out
(Actually David crawls under the bed with his created super hereo in hand)

Fire and Brimstone seep up from the cavern causing damage and chaos.
(Actually that's me throwing the covers and pillows around from my bed, Timothy helps)

(Brawno is one of several cardboard figures we made out of some liquor boxes, the others please don't laugh too hard: "Jimmy James Edwards" "Glassman" "The Linkronauts" "Andre Cube" "Spider Woman" "Dr Doom" "Dr Pain" and "The Claw")
They were all in the alter egos doing what super heroes do when in desquies (boring) Please note that only in this series are Dr Doom, Dr Pain and The Claw good guys. Normally they are out causing trouble of their own.

The Ground shakes and the earth rumbles and out of the depths of hades comes "Mephisto" (Actually it's me. I throw the matress on my brother's bed across the room. It took a little effort to do it. I was only 12 years old. We don't use the other "h" word we don't want to get in trouble) The other superheroes see that Brawno is in truoble and come in to help. (Mom says something from down stairs about us making so much noise. We call down to her and tell her we are playing)

The super heroes arrive: Andre Cube actually arrives first in his supersonic aircraft (A master combination lock) The Linkronauts arrive next in their rocket (A wooden leg from the couch. It broke off and we decided to keep it for our story.) Mean while Brawno bursts out of the cavern which is now filled up with lava (clothes) Spider Woman swings in on her web narrowly escaping some lava flying at her(my t-shirt) Los Angeles is full of chaos the earthquakes are getting worse. Mephisto (me) vows to destroy the earth starting with Los Angeles because he hates it so much. (Mom yells up again "Don't make me come up there" This is about an hour from the last time she spoke to us. We quiet down a little this is the good guys beating Mephisto back. I actually did not mind playing the bad guy)

Dr Doom and Dr Pain (also played by me) try to defeat Satan and they are transformed into The Claw

Glassman almost gets melted and Jimmy James Edwards realizes that this fight is out of his league He goes off to do something I don't quite remember what. Spider Woman almost gets killed by Mephisto but is saved by the Linkronauts (Their outfits are white with black skeletons on them. They spend most of the series trying to stay out of Mephisto's way. They know they can not beat him. The action (noise) heats up again when Mephisto and Brawno start going at it toe to toe. The other super heroes save poeple and try to keep the city from getting totally destroyed. (Mom warns us again. I can't repeat what she said this time. Basically it was "stop making all that noise or else." one of us said okay. the quiet did not last long.)

How does Brawno defeat Mephisto? How does Glassman help and why doesn't he break when he gets hit? Can Andre Cube do anything against the powers of Mephisto and (Can our 3 story writers keep themselves out of trouble before Mom gets really frustrated?) All this and more in the next stunning (BORING) episode of Brawno vs Mephisto

This is one of my fondest memories from childhood and we only had one toy a yellow Ford Mustang. (Jimmy James Edwards' car) Don't joke me too much I was 12 years old when. this story took place.

I am much impressed that the memories are that clear ... were I to tell stories of such an age, it would be exceedingly short ... friends came over, we played ... it got loud ... mom sent them home ... I got to clean up the mess.

That wouldn't make much of a story. You did fabulous here ... almost as if we were sitting at a coffee shop as you relayed your recollections.

Archie, I raised two boys, and I think this is marvelous. My oldest was 16 and Montie was just born, so when he grew to 2 Brennan the oldest used to play boxes with him. Nothing else, just plain boxes in our huge livingroom. I've never seen any two people have as much fun as they did, and to this day they dearly love each other.
I was mesmerized by your story, and got the giggles every time your mom would call upstairs and tell you to be quiet! I did that too, but understood young boys need to be noisy.
You write very well Archie, you held my interest through out the whole story, and I could see it all in my mind's eye.
Enjoyed this very much.
Warm love
