Our Hearts

Contributed by maryetta on Sunday, 22nd May 2005 @ 07:36:47 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

when the mind begins to fade reasons goes
you cant be angry with them they dont understand
and to scold them like a child only angers them
they dont remember they dont reason we do it for them
we have no real guidelines except our hearts

being a caregiver sometimes means stepping in their shoes
you have to anticipate what theyll want or do next
see through their eyes think throgh their minds
try to keep one step ahead without them knowing
we have no real guidlines except our hearts

we play a cloak and dagger game with them
all to keep them happy and safe till the end
we dont let them know what is going to happen
but we watch them lose the battle from the start
we have no real guidlines except our hearts

it is our heart that keeps us all going to the end
our strength carries them forward to stand tall
the love we feel for them will keep us going ahead
for in the end it will be our tears that send them home
we have no real guidlines except our hearts

Please accept my acknowledgement of your inner strength. I had to watch my aunt go through this. She was always frightened because she didn't recognize anyone and didn't even know who she was or where she was. It is a 24/7 job and takes a lot of patience, restraint, and love. God bless you.

Rita

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
