Cries of innocent souls

Contributed by venkat on Monday, 26th July 2004 @ 11:49:59 PM in AEST

* * *

Here is a cremation ground
Here the cries of souls still resound
Look at the burning corpses on pyres
Look at the ashes with glowing embers
Here are horrible cries of a college girl
She was hacked to death in exams hall
By a co-student whom she had not loved
And not gone out to park when he wanted.
Here are groans of a girl mentally retarded
Raped by a beast for days, pregnant she was
Strangled to death and was thrown out to dust.
Here are moans of a babe whose body bled with
Severe cuts and pierced by pins tortured to death
Was found behind bushes, eaten by dogs and ants
Which demon tortured this angel? God only knows!
Here are cries of a girl; her face was bathed in acid
By a monster for she didn’t embrace him as a friend.
Here are cries of a daughter-in-law who was burnt
Alive by her brute husband and a mother-in-law as
She failed to bring a big fortune from her parents!
Here are the cries of a lady who was drugged and
Cut by her husband to pieces stored in a fridge as
She could not bring more money from her parents.
Here are the heart wrenching cries of many girls
Ah, how can I bear these pathetic cries of souls?
Here I have a gun to shoot those demonic criminals
As the cries of innocent souls still linger in skies!

Their ashed lie cold in an urn because their living cries went unheeded. Our world is so sick and sad today.

My friend, this is a haunting piece.

and here is the cry of a young girl, 16
who took her life because it was "appropriate"
A suicide pact was made and she took it
She will never know of what she lost....

sorry Venkat, this is the beginning of something that this inspired in me
Whenever I go to a cemetary, I always wonder about the people buried in rows upon rows.

thanks for sharing this. how dare you say "here, you cannot find poetry"? this is poetry.... this is good poetry. :)

A very moving piece.
I think you've expressed the pain and helplessness one feels about innocent people suffering, really well.

Is it not the way of the demon, to take the life of the demon? Justice in our modern world is a tortuous thing;
to divide between one's rage and one's humility before the balance of creation, in the domain of true justice.

I thoroughly agree that dowries are a despicable source of terror for many women in India, and that across the world, many suffer horrid and heinous deaths at the hands of such perpetrators. One may only hope that an afterlife is given for each man to suit his actions in the current, so that divine justice, served by lady fate is deserved.

Chilling, vivid, horrifying and truthful write, venkat. Keep writing.

the inhumanity of man...gets those that have compassion down...only solace is they will face a higher power...

venkat, the injustice just screams from this as if itself one of the victoms. I'll never completely understand why such things happen in this world.
I believe that to really understand and appriciate great good we must bear witness to great evil, but sometimes it just seems too much.
Great write.

It seems the pyres get higher, and the relentless cries of those heaped on, grow and grow without having the chance at life as we know.....and the anger of it all. And no one cares....no one sees......until its too late.

Shared cares, are shared lingerings. Thank you.

Truly touching. Sometimes the news seems like a parade of these lost souls. I can't bear to watch any more, not because I don't care, but because I *do*.

Venkat,
There are so many things that we choose to look away from because it makes us SEE and KNOW the ugliness that exists in the world. To mourn it we must acknowledge it first, and you do it marvelously for us. It is a difficult read, because of the "rest of the story" behind each line.... the ones we know and ones we can only imagine. Thank you.

~Psyche
BTW - I think this is the first time I have ever seen anyone - other than academics - comment on the practice of Sati, and its horrors. Kudos to you there, as well.

This brought tears to my eyes and pain to my heart. How miniscule our problems are compared to the injustices that occur in other countries. Thank you for the reminder that others have it so much worse. Excellent work, as always. Peace to you (((venkat))).

And to such agonies has the world been consigned to my dear poet. For in these the hereafter of the world in the days of its near ending.... one of the greatest signs are the passing of care and the lack of compassion in men for his fellow men. A heart wrenching write but one that is skillfully done. If only it is not too late for us to turn back the tide ..if only words and poetry can heal this great diviide in the hearts of men... alas such is the world... great write herein one that musters the very emotions.

Well written Venkat.........this tortured my soul!
So many innocent young ones put to needless death!
I could feel your pain, and I'm sick to even think about it Venkat! Poor souls
And I would ask Why?
Sadly never any answers to their cries!

This was such a powerful poem and it just made me ache inside when I thought on it.

Why must innocent souls cry out? Where is the protector when horrific things happen?

So many questions and I was quite moved by your work Venkat.

Yes, sir , so many 'crying souls' day by day increasing - make us really 'cry aloud' & also 'rebel' -
a 'shame' on civilisation - so inhuman - very well narrated - Thank u for the concern shown - let's hope such a ' harsh' reaction from the nearest of such victims might warn such criminals in future & may prevent/reduce such sad & terrifying incidents - May such souls rest in peace-AMEN.

Woe unto those that do not shout at the horror of things like that.
To keep silent and silently look on when when such evil occurs is complicity in the crime.
Silence can be deadly. Thanks Verkat for shouting loud and as always with a masterpeace
Be blessed
Elizabeth.

Dear Venkat Sir!
I just came across this poems of yours, and being of the generation that still remembers the Holocaust as a small child.
The mystery of ultimate evil still taxes the theologians and representatives of any religious persuasion.
Man has both, the highest and the lowest in him. The divine spark - image of God, and the bottom of hell.
I am deeply shaken by your poem.
Wonderfully expressed, as it shows forth the terrible weight of the God-given freedom of choice.
Thanks a lot for sharing this masterwork.
Blessings
Elizabeth
