I guess I had a rocky start,
(misdemeanours of the heart)
petty thefts and wayward hands;
stolen kisses in the stands.

lust can masquerade, and
take you on an escapade:
but I was pretty sure,
you were my one big score.

Chorus
if love is a crime
let me do my time,
so long as you share it
with me.

the trail was easy enough to find,
all the larcenies of the mind;
intent was clearly read
in the rose petals on the bed.

in regards to my obsession,
I was found proudly in possession
not exactly a first offence;
we can drop that pretence.

I got banged up real good,
my heart held fast, as it should
no early release or some such;
I objected too much.

the conditions weren’t half bad,
conjugal visits were had:
meals and good times,
for the loveliest of crimes.

I guess this is a fitting end,
no need to try and pretend:
love bound me real tight,
and for me, that felt right.
