[hometext] => Dedicated to Seonaid, a bubbly and much loved public servant at my favourite coffee watering hole.
[bodytext] => The Retirement bell rings out once more, to praise her and to bless.
It chimes to tell that Seonaid plans to chill out from the stress,
to count down hours - but no more years - as 25 is plenty
and thoughts of coffee, food and steam, are hers to phase out gently.
But when she leaves we will pause again remembering the humour,
of that frozen turkey that shivered at the mention of consumer
then promptly fell from such a height it broke Seonaids toe
so, for a time her dancing moves were torturously slow.
Alas, the turkey, a broken bird, fell fowl of thermal powers .....
and was slowly cooked on gas mark 1 for four and twenty hours.
Look forward now Seonaid to those well-earned years ahead
where Spring and Summer footpaths are there for you to tread.
Or find a beach with golden sands where a warm breeze sighs,
and dance to the music of mermaids, beneath chandelier skies.

YAY! I/'/m first to comment!!
ahem!
ahhhhh retirement, oh the plans I have for you. I love how this
just slipped off the tongue like a dance. Beautifully written my
dear friend and bard. What a fun dedication. That last line is
simply divine! (did not mean for that to rhyme ...or that. Okay I/'/ll stop)
Love that you/'/ve posted again, Tommy. Your work is like a carb
laden meal-- I could stuff myself silly and still be hungry for more!

I feel after reading this as if I knew her. You have written it like a conversation set to music. Whoever she was, she had you all affection trained, for you recall her with your heart.
This is a lovely send off. She leaves you a legacy to emulate. See that you pass her gift on to others. She would like that.
Let me join in welcoming you back. You have made a splendid entrance!

Great poem and a fitting tribute to someone who clearly has earnt the rest.
I must admit i/'/m envious, still having to pull myself through the weekly grind until the much cherished weekend arrives again.
Life can be such a stress, I/'/m dreaming of the time when it isn/'/t

Seonaid, what a beautiful name...
And to work all through ones life.
like so many/ with too few appreciating
what you did.
Seonid you did a whole lot. You earned
a retirement a time to finally be
yourself.
Thank you!
Peace! |
