Borders are a symptom, nothing more,
to a sickness shorn of any cure.
This madness;
I am Albanian!
I am American!
I am Brazilian!
I am Canadian!

On my side of the ground,
(not so easy to even find!)
I will take your life.
I will, because:
I am Albanian!
I am American!
I am Brazilian!
I am Canadian!

Well, yes, this earth is round.
But, this invisibly defined ground
was built on the blood of those who used to be,
Albanian!
American!
Brazilian!
Canadian!

What gave me the right to kill you?
What logic came to make it natural,
a shrugged acceptance this is the way of things?
I don’t know. We breathe, we eat, we kill.
We do so to remain, to claim;
I am Albanian!
I am American!
I am Brazilian!
I am Canadian!

A folly of horror. [comments] => 4 [counter] => 86 [topic] => 28 [informant] => invierno [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => Patriotic )

BRAVO!!
We all have our prejudices. God knows I am working
on handling mine. As I have told my wife numerous
times...there is a big difference between racist and
prejudice. Racist are hateful to a specific ethnic
group. Prejudice hate everyone equally. J/K!!!
Truth be told we all bleed the same. And I have
met some great people from pretty much every
background imaginable. Whether American,
Canadian, Albanian, Brazilian, etc...We are all
Earthlings; NOW TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER!
Im sure that I could stir up quite an argument
if I continue but that is not the reason for this
comment. It is to commend my friend on
another brilliantly written piece.

Rich

It takes a common threat to our existence to unite humans. We prefer to live for ourselves.
Your question is hard to answer -- who has the right to take a life? Funny that we call the dead CASUALTIES...death is not a casual thing!
We hide death from our children, we hide it from the news. We hide it from ourselves. No wonder we fear it.
Perhaps we would have more respect for life if we saw death every day. Ask those who have.
