What is the gift you are leaving behind?

We demolish the forests, to build in the dirt.
What in exchange shall we give to the earth?

The planets a debt that all of us owe
What tiny seed of a gift will you sow?

A book or a song or a beautiful child;
A painting, a poem, a forest left wild

A token, a present, to pay for our time;
An earthwarming gift; a last valentine.

To honor her hosting the lifetimes that we
Expect that she owes to us unendingly.

You can’t take it with you, or wed soon become;
A desolate, leftover shell of a slum.

While theres still time perhaps we should try;
To think how were going to tell her goodbye.

Very profound, my dear Jaye.

There/'/s still too many that don/'/t care. Least that/'/s my opinion but your poem is great. It would be a miracle to get everyone to think like this.

Take care,

Sir Timotheus

This is a great poetic example of the 2nd law. A reminder of where our choices are leading us and how we often don`t look to the future until it`s too late.

Molto ben scritto.
Molta saggezza nella tua scrittura
Il settimo e l`ottavo linee mi ha preso nel cuore.

How very true indeed. We have all been guilty
of taking the Earth among so many other things
for granted. And as it was mentioned, so many
will not come to even think about it in this way
until it is too late. So many people really do
think that they are owed the world when it is
them that actually owes a debt. Beautiful yet
very profound at the same time. Absolutely
brilliant like so many of your pieces.
