To vanish that evening just the same
An escape that vaguely did just seem
To fade away like a childhood dream

With tongue now numbed
Light headed; mind has succumbed
Staring blankly under heavy sedation
Motionless in desolate isolation

Memories flicker as if a fragile flame
Once again just a number; without a name
Sitting upon the floor in a room often forgotten
A prodigal son once begotten

Eyes dance behind lids’ reluctant closure
As medications’ grasp weakens relinquishing hold of its stolen treasure
Thoughts like wildfire start to run
Eyes suddenly open wide to the glare of a fluorescent sun

Rubbing temples, gently caress
Through their lies inner demons do confess
Returning consciousness forcibly willed
Perception of time no longer distilled

Tiny marks have kept time covering the walls and door
With pieces of plaster big and small scattered across the floor
The lights flicker, a shadow stirs, welcome home old friend
Black and white merge, there is no grey, this tunnel has no end

In the midst of sound*s last breath
Tumblers rise and fall with a whisper*s death
Silence has a new chapter to the story wrought
An exit’s gift; a soul has bought

By rite of passage through silence, awareness is reawakened
Sanity now tangible flexes and does bend
Down one long corridor countless footsteps taken
Though memories and thoughts constantly battle yet both have since been forsaken

Motion constant yet standing still
No clock in sight with time to kill
As an indentured spirit to an involuntary silence found
A timid mind to a fevered heart is bound

Casting aside the corpse of an existence no longer needed
Homage paid to a master whose words are perpetually heeded
Imagination is the result of reality*s abjection
Poised before a mirrored glass the image beheld is not a reflection

To and fro gazing upon the ultimate corporeal question
Want a life living in Hell or a death within Heaven
?

Just a thought that came to mind? Whoa, impressive!

Life and death are always something I think about. Those last two lines really twisted my mind and made me think even harder.

Definitely an intriguing piece of art.

Thank you,

Tim

I*m with Tim on this.
Every line is a jewel and sadly there are so many, I*d have to quote the entire piece. It doesn*t get any better than this. Really!

How did I miss this wandering tale of existence? So dense with meaningful thoughts and fit into rhyme with a casual grace. I love your descriptions, such as TO THE GLARE OF A FLOURESCENT SUN, and A TIMID MIND TO A FEVERED HEART IS BOUND. A second read allowed the subtle nuances their due. This is best enjoyed at a slow pace. It is not dessert; nor the floor show..this is the filet minion.
Your final question is substantial and a fitting finale . How splendid that you have left us with something to ponder! Well done!
