Behind The Mask

Contributed by The_Phantom on Wednesday, 16th April 2003 @ 12:35:00 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

Behind the mask is a man full of love, but forced to wallow in blood,
It's the scars on my face, that raises your heart rate,
It makes you turn away, and run for the light of day,
The darkness of my mind, allows my power to grow stronger with time,

I came to you in dreams, passionatly calling your name followed by screams,
I've been bond to this place, I wear the the mask in hope fear is replaced,
It's cold and dark, but the warmth you need is in my heart,
What you see is an illusion, allow our love to fusion,

Don't pull away, give me your hand, please stay,
Behind the mask is a man wounded by the past,
A heart calling out, don't let my horrid face install any doubt,
A man full of pain, hiding my face, I'm so ashamed,

Behind the mask is a man with faith, who will do anything to keep you safe,
A man who would die a thousand times, to keep you from doing it just one time,
This man is only 26, and knows your something he can't resist,
A man of truth, who's given his heart to you as proof,

I'm at your feet, please I beg you, accept me,
Look into your heart, are we really that different, do we have to be apart,
Accept me for who I am, seek and you will find the beauty within,
Behind the mask is where I hide,
I leave you with these words to captavate your mind.

Forever Faithful
The Phantom

I really like this one, Phantom. I interpret this as the life of someone who is forced into darkness when he is isolated for who he is, and only wants love. Even a trained killer can value life and the love it can hold. It is sad when we are forced to where a mask, to keep our sanity( this I know alot of) and there is a loving, caring, generous person inside of what seems to be an empty shell. It is sad when people judge falsely for our jobs or our freedom of expression. I might be interpreting this poem wrong...I don't know if your going away is war related, or if you are just taking a road trip... but it seems to me this is a good bye,-don't hate me for doing what I have to do poem. Even though I am against war or blood shed of any kind, I respect what you do, and the sacrafice you lay down for freedom. Don't take this the wrong way... but I'd wait for you. You really touched me with this one. Be safe.

no one wrote like that and no one will again, for that you have a heart of man, you may hide your face behind the mask but you never hid your heart. a great and wonderful write that will survive the dust of time.
