For spring had entered the capital
Walking on gigantic feet.
The smell of witch hazel indoors
Changed to narcissus in the street.

~John Ashbery (b. 1927), U.S. poet, critic.
- from "It Was Raining in the Capital."

~ ~ ~

I will not be your daffodil.
I haven’t the strength to be that fragile
nor the predilection to be that obvious.
I refuse to bloom unless I can
find a way to do so
without the unnecessary
impertinence.

Spring can be a horrid season
and I’ve no inclination
to be its symbol.
I will not lay in wait all winter
only to make a spectacle
of myself every year when
the season changes.

(It’s a ridiculous way to live.)

It’s Spring again, baby –
but no matter how many times
it comes to us, I will never be
your daffodil.

But, Love,
if you let me…

I will be your rain.

The Hyperbole of the second line, strophe one is of very high quality.

This poem reads like that of a very great poet named after red Salvia flowers, who used to paint bluebirds and red hearts on her apiaries, on everything.

The Neo-Theatres appreciate the difference between the beauty of subtle melancholia and that other kind, which in this instance is compared to a daffodil-gaudy as the diamonds of gold diggers fingers, perhaps?

The Neo-theatres are pleased to find this poem is nothing so simple as beautiful.

This poem also reflects the mood of a born free poet who refused to bloom according to others wish.

beautifully penned.

This was one of those poems that pierced me through the heart with its depth and beauty.
The poem displays how well you know your own character and your capacities.
I just loved it, and the quote is gorgeous!

Take care,
Dom

A very well thought out and
enjoyable poem. I will not
be used at your whim yet
if you want something true
than I am ready. That seems
a healthy and smart way
to approach such an event.
I think you
have quite a talent.
Truly , Doug

It has been said that "April is the cruelest month..."
I feel a concurrence with this piece as water is stronger than rock and stems the change of tide and season I say if it feels like rain, let it rain.

Bravo

This is what I think poetry is. The beginning to end just amazed me. To put ones strength and refusal to conform in such poetic words was brilliant.Fantastic job.

An honest message of inveitable captiulation
as is with all forms of rezistance. Quite strong
in it's message never the less second only to
euphoric enchantement. Lovely work you do.
A pleasure to read. Take care snemmy . . .
