Oh! that I might expel it,
This nastiness, this mad foofaraw –
(A little pig’s house of straw)
Might you count each sun
That comes falling down
As I twist and turn, spit and spew
And beg a little more of even you?

(Maybe just………
A long, drawn out exhale)

Or would you fail to notice [look away],
Should it suddenly spill out
In front of you someday –
To land, fat and black
and screeching,
At your feet?

Now complete,
An utter atrocity,
Stuffed so full of another-world’s reality
That it leaks unattractively from its pores.
[And still it begs for more!]

(Would you lay down with it
If I asked you to?)

A couple of pills,
A bit of Daddy’s glue,
Segmentation born of blue -
All pasted together
To wallow alone, within
Straw walls reinforced with bone
On the other side of a desperate moon
Here in the night, here in my room.

And what of this wickedness,
That refuses its name –
Would you cast it aside
Redirecting the blame
To some errant corner of the universe
Where galaxies collide
Into one another… or worse,
Into themselves?

Oh, hell –
Maybe its just as well
That I simply shut my mouth
[for brick and wood seem stronger, no doubt]
And hold the beast in
As the sun sets itself to rise
Again, again.

~

Ah, but…
I wouldn’t get to play with them if
I… did…

that.

This is rather surrealist, even for you Snem! I like it-- it's a dizzying, spiraling, crazy trip-- but somehow, it makes sense... life's a mess, patch jobs are done, you obey certain rules... but... it's not satisfying. I am probably wrong, but hey, even if I am, I had fun picturing this poem in my mind!

You know, I think this is perhaps my favourite of yours for a long time.

I know a lot of people (including me) tend to mumble on and on a bit about flow, but this, here, really did have that wonderful sort of slide to it. Reading it just went by so fast, it was effortless.

I do like your rhyming poetry when it appears, Chris.

You know I'm terrible at comments, so I'll just end this now by saying I loved it.

*hugehugs*

foofaraw..damn what a cool word. What a cool write, Snem. It seemed so daring, slightly defiant in it's nature. I really loved that ending.
Thanks for sharing.
Peace and hugs,
Laura

Of course you know you made me go and look up the word "foofaraw"! Shame on you! I must say tho, that I like the contrast or should I say hedging, between the definition and the piece itself. Somehow I don't think anything you pause to consider is of little importance.
I love the rhyming, and as Philly says the flow is so natural too. But what I find best about this is your ability to make me go back and read it again and again, each time finding more and more nocks and cranies to peer into. I do so like ...that!

I pulled my head out of the oven to look up:

foofaraw - FOO-fuh-raw, noun:
1. Excessive or flashy ornamentation or decoration.
2. A fuss over a matter of little importance.

This was a delicious romp on the rug of my mind with a cigarette lit held aloft in a fist.

Excellent

Peace

hun .. I know how badly that beast wants to break free sometimes ..
(thank heavens for pen and paper, eh?)

I've had the thought from time to time, how wonderful it would
be if we could just say and do whatever the heck we wanted at
the time, without worry of recourse. Mighty soul-cleansing, I'm
thinking. But .. then .. we are held responsible for our own
beasts and the necessity to keep them at bay .. though,
occassionally they break free of the reigns ..

And so .. writes like this are born.

Conscience. It's a valuable thing when fear, desperation, pain
and other beasts appear .. yes? Warmth and compassion shall
slay them all. As truth and light, ever and always, will overcome
spite and jealousy. My faith is firmly planted on that. :)

Perfectly conveyed, hun, and exceptionally written, as always.

*hugs*

Snem,

Foofaraw - loved it!

instant recognition of the inspirational gals but plenty of you in here too -it raised the hairs on the back of my neck, it did. Perhaps poetry is long in gestation and born deformed, but its our offspring nonetheless, and we've got to accept it.

challenging stuff,

S

I don't see you as much fearing the beast, as teasing the beast. I think this whimsical taunt provokes the beast and illicits the attention and anticipation of the reader. GO FOR IT!

I'm not sure of the meaning of all this-
Bits and pieces but i can't put the picture together-
I like it even still-
But then again you always put a spell on me with your writes...
