This poem is part of my venting. [bodytext] =>

How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is
To have a thankless child!

— King Lear, Act I, sc. iv

The slamming doors,
The sullen looks
Your bitter tongue like fishing hooks
Barbs sunk deep into my heart,
Another jab as you depart.

The explosive anger,
This morbid view
My best advice you would eschew
What contribution should be sought,
From one who will not be taught?

Now temper's cooled,
The wounds remain
I can't resolve the sharp disdain
This feckless sense now tempers grief,
Your dramatic departure was a relief.

Time will heal,
Or further divide
Those once close who can't abide
Free from rules however sound,
Perhaps in time you'll come around. [comments] => 5 [counter] => 261 [topic] => 23 [informant] => spike [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 35 [ratings] => 7 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => FamilyPoems )

This is a good poem! well done! In your authors note it says 'no disrespect of the feelings of young people..etc' well i am having problems with my parents and i don't find this disrespectful of my feelings at all! It makes so much sense!

I love that I'm never able to guess what I'll find when I come to your page -and- the feeling that comes as I make my way there... the confident feeling that I will like what I find there regarding of what the subject/style is.

This is no exception. This is at once emotive and... controlled (not sure if that's the right word) -- not an easy combination to achieve. This leaves me feeling selfishly thankful that I cannot relate - and feeling for you that you can. Very well done, Spike -- again.

I see no disrespect in this..just a caring Father who is hurt by the actions of his son...
I hope things work out..and he sees the errors of his ways...
