against it's bar of sand
and let us go exploring
the road to No Man's Land.

The marshy passage winding
from bay to inner bay
lays ready for the finding
where my boyhood summer lay;

where still in sunlight sleeps
amid the coastal miles,
the clustered little houses,
built rough.. on battered piles.

No fields they have for tilling
nor dirt for garden seeds..
these seaside little cottages
that rests within the reeds.

The piers by waters, eaten..
the eddy that begets
the concrete walls..weather beaten
strewn with fishing nets..

Along the water alleys
the marshes roses grow;
with silver guilded galleys..
the fishing boats will go.

Your rough and tumble splendors
my seaside village lacks.
Unpicturesque suspenders
are crossed on plenty backs..

Unchanged the current races-
I hope to see again
the same shy neighbor faces..
the same hard-handed men.

They talk of skiffs and dories..
the way they always did-
they tell the same old stories
of famous Captain Kidd.

Beneath the starboard awning,
these old men dream and yearn...
the boats go fourth at morning;
at dusk the boats return.

Above the liquid grasses
and all the drifting weeds,
time nods and slowly passes
this village in the reeds.

M.O.H.

It sound so wonderful. When I lived on the coast there were little bay villages like this with the houses built up on the pilings. Early in the mornings after the tide went back out I could find the most beautiful things on the beach. I loved that place. It is a life like no other.

Great storytelling Billy yet again! You painted such a vivid picture. You made me feel nostalgic for a place I've never been, and for a life I never lead...Well done!!

Lovely poem of reminicense. Its always good to look back on our childhood and realise how happy we were. I do that all the time.

Great use of words and I felt as If i was there.
Just great.

Splendid! I have been thinking a lot lately of the shore where I spent summers as a kid... I've gone back nearly every summer since I moved away. When I don't... I still feel its pull. I'm going again this year -- and honestly, if I hadn't already made plans to do so, reading this would have been enough to make me feel that I had to.

Fabulous write! It is, as with everything else, what doesn't change that means the most, I think. I love how you've honored that here.
