sitting on my daddy's knee,
"Ride a little pony"
Is what he would sing to me.

He would say honey will you do me favor
sugar will you comb my hair,
you are daddy's little girl,
as I stood by his chair.

He could tell so many stories
from when he was growing up,
with hot coffee in his hand,
he would take a sup,

Honey will you do me a favor,
sugar will you turn up the news,
you kids better listen up,
as he kicked off his shoes.

If I could only go back,
all the things that I would change,
I never realized the things I done,
could cause him so much pain.

Honey will you do me a favor,
sugar stop running away,
you are really messing up,
you don't listen to a word I say.

Daddy came to see me marry,
and all the hurt he had inside,
he didn't want to realize,
his little girl is now a bride.

Honey will you do me a favor,
sugar I don't feel so well,
but bring the baby to me,
as his face looked so pale.

The next time I saw him,
was many miles away,
he was put in the hospital,
where he didn't want to stay.

Honey will you do me a favor,
sugar please don't cry.
I said I love you daddy,
as I was thinking please don't die.

The next day headed back to Nashville,
the car broke down on the road,
everybody was already gone,
and I didn't get to go.

I called daddy's number,
and mama answered the phone.
she said do you want to talk to him,
and I said yes in a real light tone.

He told me to cut it out,
because I was a wreck,
he said I love you more than a bushal,
and a peck and a hug around the neck.

I then dropped to my knees,
and I let out an awful cry.
Mama then got on the phone,
and I asked is he gonna die.

Her voice cracked, and she
didn't know what to say,
she tried to calm me down
by saying he will be okay.

At seven 0'clock the next morning,
I woke to the ringing of the phone,
I jumped out of bed, because
I knew that he was gone.

If I could only bring him back,
I don't think I would you see,
because these are the words
my daddy would say to me....

Honey will you do me a favor,
sugar tell everyone for me,
that I have never been happier,
that this is where I want to be.

I know you kids miss me,
and I know your mama does too,
but no matter where you are
...I am always with you.
