Memories Of Madness

Memories Of Madness

She’s one person by day,
And another by night

Saying things she won’t remember,
But I can’t forget

It’s hard to hate someone so close,
And forgive someone so mean

It’s hard to listen to others complain,
When you would give anything to have what they have

It’s hard for me to understand the way she thinks,
As she tries to justify all she does

Knowing she’s wrong,
But not being able to brush off all she says

Watching as she hurts not only me, but all those I love,
And hating her for it

She knows not what she does,
But I do

She is the one person I should love,
But I cannot find the strength

It’s more than just being a teen,
It’s being hurt

Addiction of any kind is tragic, and after reading your poem my heart breaks for you and your situation. I'm glad that you have an outlet in your words. I want to tell you that I have been in your shoes and the hardest part of all of it is learning not to follow in the footsteps of those around us. You are at a very impressionable age and I hope you learn which path not to take from your mother, as sad as that sounds. Also I want to tell you, to please try not to hate her. Remember that alcoholism is a disease. And email if you need a friend. Good luck.

My friend hate is a very strong word, and it is going to cause me to tell you this story, i haven't even thought of these people in such a long time and this poem spawned it out...for one thing my mother suffered from alcoholism herself ...i watched my mother stay drunk most of my entire life....and it does hurt my friend it truly does....one of my friends that i had, her parents both suffered from alcoholism, and i remember when i was in the 7th or 8th grade, somewhere around there that every single time her parents would go out drinking and leave us there....and we would talk and wait for them to come home as we knew what was coming, the dad would normally walk through the front door and the mother of my friend was always sitting out in the car to drunk to move....so when he would come in the door he would go to their room and stay without a word to say to us....we would go out and drag her out of the car..... a grown woman mind you who was heavy, and we did actually drag her......allllll the way into the house where we put her to bed...fully dressed, we did this every single time i spent the night over there, and many nights after doing that the father of my friend would beat her....this was a very hard time in my life as well but later in years, about 4 to be exact ....my friends mother died ...her liver failed due to her alcoholism....i am not saying this will happen to your mother my friend but please use the word hate with care......you never know when you will wake up without her....just be there for her .....and even though it hurts you....the more you help her....the better you will feel....or should.....i know i did....thank you for sharing this one my friend it's taken me back in time pretty far....
