We hear the Lorax will be there and Thing One and Thing Two of course --- and a whole slew of other Cat friends. My daughter and I are planning are going... in honor of Mr. Geisel and in support of the Cat. [bodytext] =>

They're putting the Cat in the Hat on trial
I hear they've thrown the book at him
There's a list of charges, a trial date set
And his future's looking grim

There are prosecutors and witnesses
Conspiring to make a solid case
The Cat's been arrested for breaking in
'Though the kids let him in the place!

He posted bail and wanders about
With his tail dragging 'cross the floor
He's told his lawyer he has no defense
Saying, "So be it" and little more

Oh friends, I fear that he is doomed
As yes, good judgment he did lack
For foolishly, he dared to return
In The Cat in the Hat Comes Back

Maybe, just maybe, he'd have been ok
If he hadn't pushed his luck
But the second trip just made it worse
And his chances now are sunk

I'll go to the trial and offer my support
To the Cat that does deserve it so
Hoping that they will set him free
But who knows which way it'll go

Yes, I will definitely be there
When that old cat takes to the stand
Grinning just so, I imagine he?ll be
As he raises a paw in lieu of a hand

If I were his lawyer, I'd argue that
It could have been so much worse
To leave the children home alone
Is a far greater offense, of course

And that crazy cat, for all his faults
Only meant to be their friend
So it isn't fair by any stretch
That he should pay for it in the end

I'm just praying that his lawyer
Is a bright guy and has the sense
To think to mention that it has been
Many a year since the offense

I'm not sure, but I would think
The statue of limitations has run out
And if that doesn't work, well I guess
There is always reasonable doubt!

And no... I'm not kidding... I'm hoping to make it to the trial as well as some of the other events - Click here for the story : ). Well, this is absolutely adorable. (you mispelled trial a couple of times). I had not heard of this event and am deeply troubled by it. That cat may be a bit mischevious and precocious but is certainly no threat to those cnildren. (bad parents leaving them alone). Be sure to keep us informed of the trial proceedings. Loving this.

Rita

Second last stanza was a bit lacking but a great little poem I'll have to steal for my friend's son.

Oh I wish I wish I hadn't stealed that dish....

unfortunately the link didn't work, so I couldn't read the story that inspired this one.

What will this politically correct world dream up next - Goldilocks and her three restraining orders? Tom Thumb and his court ordered 12 step pie fetish program (in a pop-up book, of course!)

Anyway, I think he'll get off. At the last minute, when all seems lost, he manages to pull something out of his hat.
