Naked to the prying eyes of the world
And in that nakedness was revealed
All of his flaws and insecurities

He couldn’t hide them
Nor could he cover his indignity
He could only walk a little faster
So that no one could talk to him

So that no one could know
What he was really all about
The pain, the misery inside
From a lifetime of loves gone bad

In his path, a woman, like himself
He could see it in her eyes
Eyes that looked away as they passed
Not wanting anyone to see inside

Eyes that held the pain and indifference
Of a thousand lifetimes
Brought to bear on a soul
That could find no forgiveness

In that one brief instant as their souls passed
He could feel a kinship
Someone that could understand the torment
That eats away at the heart

He turned to look back at this kindred spirit
She was gone as quickly as she came
And he kept on walking
Naked to the prying eyes of the world.

This poem is penerating to the mind. It offers an uncompromised view of the world and its harsh truths. Deep.
