Array ( [sid] => 955 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Freedom To Fly [time] => 2002-07-22 19:33:28 [hometext] => Well, this poem actually originated from a high school sophmore english class assignment, of all things. I'm still debating on if it's my best work... I'm quite happy with it and I think it makes for a good read aloud. Some of it might sound wonky, but it works with the right rhythm. I hope it blesses you. If it does, tell me! [bodytext] => Freedom To Fly

W.T.Johnson

Freedom and life, springing ever free,
Life giving waters, to it’s edge we go.
Seeking something, something to be,
Where will this road take us, how by it shall we grow?

Seeking ever more, seeking still,
By what will we find it, surely not by skill.

But what is the "it" that we seek?
Are we not granted even a peak?

So flying free, into the clouds I see,
Flying through the clouds, over the sea.

Flying with passion, in the air I’ve found it all,
Screaming over waters, hills, trees, ever so tall.

Seeing all, finding all… yet what now do I know?
Suddenly I realize it’s been merely the wind, tossing me to & fro.

Freedom gone, knowledge vanished,
Happiness lost, my soul is famished.

Not myself, but the wind has been steering me,
How could I have missed it? It’s now so clear to see!

I drift, now hopeless & lost,
Ugh! At my soul… a frightening, creeping frost!

Flying still, ever faster,
Landscape arctic and bare, I cry with no hope of laughter.

In the black wilderness, I now see a tree,
Barren as winter, a single leaf with an eternal decree.

The leaf is but a man, hung to be a curse,
Oh! But my destiny so soon for the hearse?

Child of the promise? Promise of death?
Nay, the promise of life, death shall not take my breath!

The leaf alights from the tree, shining in golden light,
He reaches His hand to me, I’ll never again face that plight!

He touches my life, freeing me forever,
He rises to The Father, leaving me to be the gospel bearer.

Unto all the nations I can now sing!
Joy unto all I am asked to bring!

Joy to every sister, grandson, and daughter,
Now my life is truly free to bring to all laughter.

By faith I am redeemed, my debts washed away,
Family now, family in Heaven, oh how we’ll dance the time away!

For no longer do I live by wants, by deeds, by lusts,
But now by faith, by hope, by love!

Ah, but love! Conquering the grave!
Greatest of all, it brings with it the power to save!

For in His great love alone do I live,
As it overtakes me, I release all that I have to give.

To flight, once again I take,
Raining down His endless love, pleading a promise to make.

In His control I realize I fly,
And before under Him also, as with joy I begin to cry.

This life, this grace, I could never deserve,
I could never repay, but Him I will always serve.

Life giving waters, waist deep I now wade,
It is all from Him! From Him the waters themselves were made!

Alleluja to the Father! Alleluja to His name!
Forever now I’ll fly, free to forever worship Christ’s name!

Dedicated to my grandfather and my brother, Wes Watts.

It really show the love of Yahweh in you, to write such things of power and love. to show people the things, from heaven above. Yahweh bless you in your writing to come, and remember the greatest of all is love!
