Our relationship
Can be symbolized
In the flowers I bring you
from stereotyped habit

Fresh and wondrous
Bright and colorful
Yet after the shortest of whiles,
Quite quickly dead

For I fear,
No matter how many fresh ideas
We may throw
Back and forth
And face to distant face
It will be the miles
Of seemingly lifeless salt water
That will droop, strain, and coldly discard
Any and all of your affections
For one undeserving

Another predictable connection
This comparison brings to light
Lies in the foreseen fact
Of blame's location
Resting solely upon these tired shoulders

Shoulders which falsely claim to know
What stress and suffering of many kinds
Actually weighs

Rotating and extending
Selfish arms in vain
To spare that unbelievably wonderful feeling
From the all-to-common
Death of a cut flower
