Array ( [sid] => 94805 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => Red Wrenching [time] => 2005-05-17 21:51:50 [hometext] => This is a rewrite of The Dual, an old poem of mine that has stuck. [bodytext] => There is a cavern deep within,
overrun by weeds and rotting boards
of abandoned dreams.

Sometimes, my secret water-logged weapon.
Often, my downfall grows steady inside.
It hoards my days,
lays wilted and gray.
It is a long
drawn out story you’ve heard before.

It, I, squawk in resentment like an owl.
It, I, rest in distaste like the dead,
and my skin
stays slippery and wet
so nothing sticks.

What is a part of me, becomes
red wrenching duality.
A silent fight of Good and Evil.
A ring around Right and Wrong.

How difficult it is to keep doubt at bay
on nights like this,
when tender hope circles
a wolf is on the hunt.
I still must find a way.

But, regardless of my intentions,
(I still have plenty of those)
I am the horror movie
in which the girl always falls,
strengthening the pace,
lengthening the race.

I am the victim, it’s captor,
the torment, and it’s rapture.

Hmmm sort of like our own worst enemy...
Some great imagery in this and the struggle within is really brought out. We all struggle with ourselves, hopefully it makes us stronger, but is rarely any fun!

I think Phil hit it right on the head. The fight for good and evil. Why? We know right from wrong. Why invariable do we choose wrong or even hesitate to think about it? We all have aspirations and yet we are our own worst enemies and tear them apart ourselves. Do we eventually get it right. I sure freaking hope so.
