Oh Dear God in the heavens.....
I pray please.... tell me as child abuse deepens.
How can any parent, for any reason, neglect,
trusting, venerable babes they should protect?

"The Glass Castle" is a book you can't put down!
A family so dysfunctional, truly a complete "breakdown!"
There are many different kinds of abuse you know.
Sexual, beatings, torturing, but a whole lifetime of
neglect, to reject, is so hard to detect!!!

The father is a hopeless drunk, the mother an artist.
He can't hold a job, and she just wants to paint.
Four children that miraculously learn to adjust.
Homeless, starving, no clothes, no complaint.

A story that will twist your heart, and wring it out!
Parents who have so little regard for their own--pout,
rather than provide.....
Even turning down welfare, because of their
so called pride.

And the many times foster care could have intervened
These precious children lied, and finagled to stay together.
They would have surely died, without each other upon
whom they could lean.
Survivors so keen, found ways to eat, to dress,
and the author (above) was a scholar.

You struggle with them, cry with them, help them
through every situation.
In the end a secret revealed, if only the Mother
had taken action.
Immature parents, who can't live without their children.
At times I was so outraged, my hands would tremble.

Their father was well-read, and bordered on genius.
He had promised them a Glass Castle, his way to appease
He even stole from them, they could no longer overlook
his many vices.
After each left home, for the first time in their lives
they finally had enough groceries!

Each child but the youngest, made a name for themselves.
Throughout their whole lives they became very self-sufficient
and strong.
The Author relates "We each learned to fend for ourselves."
How could this book be funny, but at times it is, even though
it was very wrong!

The Author's husband is
a writer in New York City,
She didn't want to write this story
because of what people might think of her,
He talked her into it by telling her this:
"Everyone that is interesting has a past!"

You being the unselfish angel, has a way of reading, then writing, how you truely felt about a certain subject-what a talent we all strive to have! Your kindness I know could fill a book-with love, tears,& laughter,& not a thing would be missing or over looked, every touch would be noted as well as every fear,& of course living happily ever after!! There would be so much to put in it,they would have to splitted into a 1,000 parts, because love alone would take up 999-for just your heart!!! A great biography of something you read!!!!!

Lots Of Love,
DAN!!!!!!

An infinitely sad theme, - of an actuality that breaks the heart. How much we read about the horrors of child abuse and child suffering, is there anything sadder than that?
You ConSue picked up masterly on an ongoing story that in this particular case had somehow a happy ending.
Youjr great and loving heart is evident.
Let us pray for all those children that grow up without love
Thank you ConSue for this masterly done story and bringing it to attention.
Love and hugs
Elizabeth
