Personal Strength

My dad is not like your average dad.
In no way is he average.
By a Harvard man,
He might be considered below,
Dropping out of high school,
Because he got a girl pregnant.

But to me, he’s above average,
He’s astounding.
He took the responsibility
Allot of men wouldn’t take
A second look at.
Half of the men who get women
Pregnant,
They stay away because of fear.
They claim the child isn’t theirs.

But my dad, oh no, he took
Responsibility.
In the long run,
It might have not been the
Right thing to do.

Just image what he could have done,
If he had stayed in school.
He could have been anything.
My dad,
My dad taught himself everything
By touch,
By listening.

He didn’t need to go to school
To know how to fix a computer.
He didn’t need to take band class,
To know how to strum a guitar,
Or play the drums with the right rhythm.
All he needed was to see it,
To feel it,
To hear it.

When other dads are watching football,
Or playing golf,
My dad is on the computer,
Working on his own online business.

Sure, he’s barely home
Because he has to support
The family.

But my dad,
When you speak one word to him,
You fall in love.
He makes you feel great inside.
He makes you laugh.
He makes you feel smart,
Great,
Real.

My dad is easy going and
Has a personal strength
That a lot of men lack.
He doesn’t need a college degree
To be smart.
He’s already smart.

If you can teach yourself the computer,
What it is,
How it operates,
Then you’re amazing.
If you can know by just listening,
What strings to strum?
Then you’re incredible.
If you can be yourself,
And still have your personal strengths,
Your wisdom of the less fortunate,
Then you are without words,
The greatest.

That is exactly what my dad is.
The greatest.
After all that he’s gone through,
He still makes you smile
While
Smiling
Himself.
Now that,
Is a
Personal strength. [comments] => 1 [counter] => 165 [topic] => 23 [informant] => NeuroticCoffeePot [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 0 [ratings] => 0 [editpoem] => 1 [associated] => [topicname] => FamilyPoems )
