The brides take flight, -they just take off
Before the Wedding day;
I wonder whether this is love
For which the parents pay.

The showers held,- they disappear,
The people say: “she got wet feet,”
Police search often weeks and fear
An early copy-cat repeat.

More brides that vanish day by day
Produce much stress and strain,
This sort of things does cause dismay,
Distress extreme and pain.

The costly gifts from wedding guests
They go all down the drain,
The bridal gown, the loveliest
Is useless - what a shame!

What must the lengthy searching cost
the good community,
When allocated funds are lost
Through bald frivolity.

No reckoning there is for pranks-
That will be played again
And bridegrooms, genii or cranks
Can not but get insane.

Dull grooms are jilted- but don’t mind,
Do anything for fame.
Their code of honor, - ill defined,
Is surely not aflame.

How many more bride escapées
Will on TV we see,
Dishonoring grooms and families
and the community.

A sorry state of things this is
To be repeated soon,
Yet - brides search for the Golden Fleece
To wear on Honeymoon.

They will show up then later on
In head dress Taliban,
With rainbow burqua, and her John
Will smile like Don Juan.

Brides disappear, children are beat
And raped and cruelly slain,
In steady loathsome a repeat
And none does stop the train.

Is this a sign of our time
A sickness grave and deep,
Then take the time, friends take the time,
To grieve lament and weep.

Too true, mate. Love the pictures and music. It's kinda like a still music video.

Great write!! I agree with you. There are more important cases and issues than "run away" brides. I pray for all the missing children and their families that they make a safe return home. And that harsher laws are implemented for sex offenders!!!!!

A timely offering in view of all the recent happenings all over the country. A firefighter with untreatable brain damage comes out of a ten year coma and asks to speak with his wife. The doctors are flabbergasted (just a few weeks after the courts ordered Terri, in Florida to be starved to death to satisfy their edict). A pre-teen girl child is raped, while being hidden across the street from her home for three days before being murdered by being buried alive BY A KNOWN COVICTED PEDOPHILE. Now the thirty-two year old woman, described by her attorney as a troubled young girl, runs away from a wedding (two different fiancés) for the second time, and costs friends and neighbors in her small town in excess of $47,000.00. It has gone too far. It’s time for people to take responsibility for their own actions and not expect the world to cheerfully pay for their mishandled escapades. Kudos! Elizabeth Kudos!

Another Masterpiece for History ED
Yes, it certainly is a sign of the times. People will be "Lover's of the themselves" and betrayers, not open to any agreement! And after reading about this one, what else can they be.........inconsiderate. Think of all the lives she put in jeopardy....tying up the police etc. when they could saving some one that truly deserved their attention.
The whole world is going Bonkers!
Well written historical piece, once again. ED
Your a masterful poetess, indeed
Warm love
