But the water doesn’t taste so sweet
I am trapped in an oasis of trees
Yet the bare branches have shed their leaves
I live in a home far above my means
A high-rise apartment in the sky
I glance down on those who breathe
Whistling a tune as they stroll by

I am part of a community
Yet the whole ignores the few
Classified in the minority
No one cares to hear my view
My neighbors are cruel
The postman forgets my bank loan
The butcher shop in town
Dumps its trash on my front lawn

I live in paradise
But the walls have been torn
I reside in the infestation of mice
I am doomed to become forlorn
I live alone
Pitiful me
I chew my last bone
Like a dog in the street

This Garden of Eden
Is deceptive in appearance
This neighborhood of heaven
Begs no adherence
The citizens of this kingdom
Take its beauty for granted
The mayor of this city
Is being held for ransom

The landscaper cuts and trims
Each blade of grass with care
A telephone pole climber
Connects the wiring in a prompt repair
The heavy duty crane operator
Constructing his masterpiece of brick
The volunteer doctor
Treating the poor and sick

A beautiful day
In this neighborhood
If I could only manage a smile
I have no doubt I would
Mr. Rogers has just passed away
His casket is being marched
Right at this moment
Through the Love Parade on Broadway
