Array ( [sid] => 92987 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => MAKE A STAND [time] => 2005-05-01 21:50:09 [hometext] => No excuses. If God really does give you strength, then you should be able to overcome all obstacles. But something tells me that some of you really don't want to overcome these things that bring pleasure at a cost. You use your human weakness as excuse [bodytext] => Confronting evil
I make a stand
I may not win
But I make a stand

Seeking pleasure
A waste of energy
A diversion from intellect
Draining my soul
Until all power is gone from me

Those who only
Seek out pleasure
Are afraid to think
They only want to feel
Foolishly believing
That they are shaping their fate

I grasp for understanding
Beyond the realm
Of our common senses

These same old
Boring troubles
That plague humanity
Are wearing me down
This Life just isn’t enough for me
But then again this life isn’t so easy

Everything looks better
When you’re up above it all
But when you see its all a lie
You have such a long way to fall

You don’t really exist
If you never mean
What you say
Do you think that your god
Can’t see
That you aren’t really sorry?

Not even we can know
If we ourselves are truly regretful
Everything we say
Everything we do
Wether or not
We are aware of it
Is decided
By our own selfish desires

Confronting evil
I make a stand
I may not win
But I make a stand [comments] => 7 [counter] => 234 [topic] => 48 [informant] => Onslaught [notes] => [ihome] => 0 [alanguage] => english [acomm] => 0 [haspoll] => 0 [pollID] => 0 [score] => 14 [ratings] => 4 [editpoem] => 0 [associated] => [topicname] => EmotionalPoetry )

mike, this was very impressive on a conceptual and on a poetic level. not only do you have your conviction clearly shown; you are not a hypocrite with it as ive seen in others. i loved the fact that you used the beginning as your ending. this poem still has me in awe with your message and how well you have written it. i am glad i had the honor of reading this.

amazing and incredibaly true. i use human weakness as an excuse to a lot of things, even though i know its not the true answer. i try to make a stand but in the end i always back down. if thats not human weakness then what is it exactly? just curious.
great write,
luv n hugs,
jennie*

Great write , very thought provoking , I think of the things i have done out of selfishness and hope to be forgiven. The last verse is inspiring, it makes me think of the children who are abused by evil and and heartless monsters. They need noble, kind hearted people to take a stand .

Good one. I like the way the first verse repeats. Good points. Good write.
