when you took a bite, did you think of this?.

I am in your freezer, on shelves in the store,

vaccume packed and seal wrapped, from the slaughter house floor.

Remember, in moments of culinary bliss,

how you swallow me down, with compassion amiss.

As you pour my cooked fluids, from the tray to the pot,

spare a thought for my kind, that justice forgot.

Through the aromour of stock cubes, can you smell my fear?,

how i struggled and fought, when the end was so near.

You know how i suffer, but show no respect,

no one's exempt from cause and effect.

So swallow me down and savour my pain,

your plate may be empty but your sins shall remain.

The more that you change,

the less that are eaten,

the less that are born,

the less that are beaten.

Remove my death shackles and send me to graze,

for the sake of a moment,in changing your ways.

Until then...

The fence is too high we need your assistance,

to reach those green pastures, not far in the distance.

I really like this poem. I need to show it to my friend, she doesn't understand why people are vegeterians. So showing her this might open her eyes. It's a good poem, written well, with the emotions correctly executed. The personification is perfect. The poem hints at the meaning, but never reeally comes right out and says it. Great Write.
