Array ( [sid] => 9153 [catid] => 1 [aid] => Mick [title] => the passion [time] => 2002-12-24 02:00:00 [hometext] => i wrote this thirty years ago, when i was a teenager. wasn't going to post it, but i haven't written much new lately, so what the hey. [bodytext] => The lights flicker on the shore of Lake Victoria
And stretch out over the waters
Like hints from new found loves.
Dimmer to those who are far
And bright to those who search for the lights
With all the passion of civilized man.
Black backed birds drift in slowly from their explorations.
Tired, settled for the night in the trees,
And tuck their wings, dagger wings,
Deep in their chests for warmth.
Their talons and dreams hold them for the rest of the night.
No talons hold me as I lose grip,
And dreams take my head from my pillow
And throw it away from the things I love by this lake.
Leading me to better places, places where I can earn wealth,
Where I’m welcomed as a commodity instead of greeted as a friend.
Lord, I search for the lights.
