I Bet

I bet you read my poem that night.
Over and over beneath dim light.
After all of your party guests left,
I bet you thought of how much I wept.
No doubt I was probably on your mind.
Your guilt must have made sleep hard to find.
I left a strong message with you that night.
Walked away with a face deprived of light.
I hoped you were truly happy with her.
Cuz without you, my entire life was a blur.
I knew one day you would want me as I wanted you.
I knew you’d like me, but I wouldn’t like you.
So I bet you read my poem that night.
Over and over beneath dim light.
Thinking of the message that I tried to say.
Reaching out for your mind in a gripping way.
It’s a shame that you never gave me a shot.
Who I wanted to be was who you already got.
It’s a good thing I was able to let you go.
I survived you, that’s what I wanted you to know.
I bet you don’t have that poem anymore.
That’s okay, ‘cuz I don’t cry for you no more.
