Array ( [sid] => 90726 [catid] => 1 [aid] => mick [title] => tribute to paschendale, remeberance is forever [time] => 2005-04-12 14:06:19 [hometext] => this is a re write of the lyrics to iron maidens paschedale, i wrote these alternate lyrics to suit the melody and theme of the original. please comment [bodytext] => Laying still in a field of the dead,
Relish the silence and the overwhelming dread,
Once again my blood it flows,
Distant men their greed it grows,

See what I am, feel who I used to be,
See what I was; kill what I want to be,

Another field, facing different men,
Greed it drives us to kill once again,
I wish the world could see our tears,
I wish the world could share in our fears,

So this war we are to win,
So many heroes’s now buried in sin,
Another cry as death treads near,
For all the people so far away from here,

See what I am, feel who I used to be,
See what I was; kill what I want to be,

I hear the rifles they chant and sing,
I hear their bullets atop a deafening ring,
So I take another blood filled breath,
As I march closer to a worthless death,

Angels bring me visions of my home,
They then remind me that I will die alone,
If only they could see me like this,
Their wishful thinking they’d no longer miss,

See what I am, feel who I used to be,
See what I was; kill what I want to be,
For I am a man of beliefs and ideals,
Of this war I find nothing that appeals,

I am a soldier yes that’s true,
Too die in battle, yes I chose it too,
But to die just for their greed,
Their only happy when the world doth bleed,

No more will I fight, no more can I kill,
Nothing changes; men still die for thrill,
Many so young, so many lost,
Are they heroes? What is the cost?

As the masses are led to die,
Filled with pride and then left to fry,
The falling youths to make our children free,
To loose it all in a killing spree,

To see their children lying burnt and scarred,
Running free until their dreams were charred,
Crippled spirits lie face down in the ash,
So politicians may save their cash,

The greed of men it destroys us now,
So many gone, none left to ask how?
For distant men with no respect for the dead,
Our heroic souls now buried under lead,

See what I’ve been; see how alive I was,
See what I’ll be, I’m a cold and worthless corpse,
See what it is that I left behind,
Can u see anything of what I died to support?

So here I lie in my unmarked grave,
Commended by men for being so brave,
They give my family my medals and charms,
If I stayed home they’d still be in my arms,

Now alone I lie, what did I achieve?
I died for men whose ideas I didn’t believe,
My family are lost; I’ve been taken from their love,
I’m lost in the dirt under the explosions above,

This is not the place for me,
I never wished to be set free,
So I drown in the blood I have shed,
So I rot in the diseases I have bled,

Now there’s nothing but cold and frost,
My body found but my soul is long lost,
So remember if you will with your heart in your hand,
The men like me who died to liberate this land.
