wanting shortcuts

Wanting shortcuts to happiness was appealing
Misleading advertisements streaked her lips
Red as summer strawberries she disguised
Her age and lack of judgment with dazzling words
Spinning pretty tales that only she believed
Desire burned reckless in her mind’s eye
She watched him come and go in her dreams
While his laughter echoed in her heart
He had given her sunlight with its miracles
And she saw the world through his eyes
Brilliant colors balanced on the horizon
Waiting for her to push the sunset
He led her to the water’s cool blueness
Sang love songs while she drew circles in the sand
They were perfect for each other
Dressed in dreams and wishes
They stared into each other’s eyes
Forever and a day
