Has slowly subsided
Tyranny has finally
Rendered it silent
Commotion
In the streets below
No emotion
In the faces I used to know

History books offer
Descriptive reminders
Of a stolen past
Left far behind us
A simpler time
Of women and love
All that seemed to matter
Was if the sun rose above

Poets, philosophers,
Intellectuals and such
Quickly turn to dictators
Unruly oppressors, to power they clutch
Rioting in the streets
Police hold their ground
Stomping feet
Revolution is just around-

Around the sharp corner
I can be found alone
Writing and thinking
Of my essence with scorn
My thoughts may not count
My soul may be bare
In My dream of dreams
We can’t yet be there

What is this? The third time you've posted this poem?
And once under a different title?

Sheesh.

I really enjoyed reading your poem. I love the ways that you refer to culture and history and your opinions on both. I am curious about your title though. Why is 56 significant? Don't think that you're thoughts don't count though, if everyone thought that way, Martin Luther King would never have taken a stand, Che Guavera would never have opened his mouth, etc...everyone's thoughts count in one way or another.

Nice write. Clear thinking and great use of words.
