gave back long-forgotten memories, you're a beautiful curse

because you brought out the best in me too, all I've feared
I've learned to love and be loved, and my self-hate seared

And now I look back to you and our small window of time
When I come back will it still be there, and you still mine?

In the first days I cried, because I was gone and you not
I was changing and growing, but you were still caught

I don't cry anymore even if it still hurts
even if I know that from here, it'll only get worse

I was leaving before I met you, why did you have to come?

Well, this is the first thing I've read around here in months. Why didn't this get any comments? The story was pretty poignant and relatable, and the question in your ending is fitting. I liked it.
